What happens next

No pressure, and no guesswork.

  1. We read it properly

Your enquiry goes straight to the office. We review what you have sent and come back with any questions.

  2. We look at the building

Where the work needs seeing in person, we arrange a site visit. Most jobs in an older Boston property do.

  3. You get it in writing

A clear written scope and estimate, so you know exactly what is included before anything starts.

How to compare quotes

Compare the Scope, Not Just the Price

Choosing a contractor isn't simply about finding the lowest number. A well-prepared proposal should give you a clear understanding of what is being done, how it is being done, what materials are being used and what the project will actually cost.

At Waldron, we believe clients should be able to make an informed comparison. Our estimates are built around a clearly defined scope of work, appropriate materials and realistic project requirements — without deliberately leaving out necessary items to make the initial price more attractive.

Comparing Contractor Quotes

When reviewing proposals, we recommend looking beyond the bottom line.

Scope of Work
Make sure you are comparing the same work. A lower proposal may simply include less.
Materials & Methods
Products, materials and installation methods can vary considerably. Confirm that each contractor is pricing comparable specifications and quality.
What's Included
Permits, access, disposal, equipment, protection, specialty trades and other project requirements can materially affect the final cost. Know what is included — and what isn't.
Licensing & Insurance
Confirm that your contractor carries the appropriate licenses, liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage.
Experience
Look at comparable completed projects, references and the contractor's experience with your type of property — particularly when working on historic or architecturally significant buildings.

Our Approach

We would rather have a transparent conversation at the beginning than an uncomfortable one halfway through a project.

If another proposal comes in differently, we're happy to review the scope with you. We'll explain where the differences are, identify anything that may have been omitted or specified differently, and where appropriate, determine whether we can adjust our pricing on a genuinely comparable scope.

No deliberate omissions. No artificially low bids. A clear scope and a realistic price for doing the work properly.
